Equity Works Starts With Us
An interactive workshop that gives evaluators and program teams tangible tools and shared practices for equity-centered evaluation and data work.
From theory to practice, one micro-move at a time.
Equitable outcomes are a shared goal across the sector, but reaching them can be more challenging, depending how the work gets done. This highly interactive workshop is where we focus on the how, helping evaluators and researchers build the habits that move values off the page and into the work.
The field of evaluation is in the midst of important shifts. Frameworks like the Equitable Evaluation Framework, Culturally Responsive and Equitable Evaluation, and Trust-Based Philanthropy are challenging us to examine what needs to change in our practice. But even when we know what to do, putting it into practice is another story. This workshop asks: how can our daily actions be in better service of more equitable, transformative relationships with the communities most impacted by the work, with partners and primary evaluation users, and within our own teams?
Reflect
Participants examine how identity, experience, and blind spots shape their work and relationships. Using arts-based exercises and the Data Equity Deck, a card-based reflection tool developed by Data+Soul Research, they explore how context, systems, and power show up across a project, from the questions they ask to how they partner with communities, clients, and colleagues.
Connect
Peers from trade stories of their own challenges and new ideas in small and large group discussions. The candid, collaborative setting helps evaluators learn from each other and builds the relationships that keep this work going after the session ends.
Act
Real-world case studies show what equity-centered practice looks like in action. Participants leave with specific shifts they can make in their own projects, teams, and organizations, plus their own Data Equity Deck to keep.
